How do you Make Money Blogging?
Question: How do you Make Money Blogging?
Answer: It’s easy, post regular content based on things people are searching for (such as this phrase, How do you Make Money Blogging) and monetize your blog via one of more of the various methods I’m going to cover below! (Stay tuned for that, you DON’T want to miss this!)
You, for example probably searched Google for something regarding making money blogging – and here you are on my website!
Anyways, as I said above – the FIRST thing you need to do when actively trying to make money blogging is post content people actually and ACTIVELY search for online, which is actually what I’m ALSO doing with this very blog post – titled “How do you make money blogging”, LOL.
Take a look at the monthly search volume:
To get the above data, I started with the Google Keyword Planner.
All you need is a free Gmail or Google account – and you can access it for free.
When you first OPEN the Google Keyword Planner – you’ll be given a few options to choose from. ALWAYS click on the top one, “search for a new keyword and ad group ideas” and it will get you where you need to be!
NEXT UP – enter a few keywords you want to do research one (just 1 or 2, don’t worry about more – Google will give them to you) and click on “get ideas”
Click on the “Keyword Ideas” tab (NOT the ‘Ad Group Ideas’ tab which is selected by default.
After THIS – you should see quite a few keywords RELATED to the keyword(s) you put in on the previous screen!
Take a look at them, note their monthly search volume, and don’t be afraid to target the LOWER searched ones as they’ll likely be easier for you to rank and get quick traffic with!
As I said above – you want to target longer tailed keywords (like the one’s above) with lower search volume.
The reason for this IS – they’ll USUALLY be less competitive, and not be targeted highly by other bloggers in your niche.
Those search #’s might not seem high to you, but think of it this way, if you spend 15-30 minutes to do one blog post per DAY – and each keyword you’re targeting has just 50 searches per month – that’s the potential of 1,500 visitors for EACH keywords to your blog each month! (And 50 is lowballing it)
This goes for ANY blog you’re building, whether it be for the make money online niche, dating, get a girlfriend, get your ex back – etc.
(If you want to know for SURE if a keyword will be easy to rank or not, plug it into the FREE Version of Traffic Travis)
Anyways, try to find something people are searching for a solution for, or a question that people are asking Google.
I decided to target the MIDDLE keyword, “how do you make money blogging” as it’s VERY long tail – and the search volume is below 1k, which GENERALLY (but not always) indicates a less competitive phrase that would be fairly easy to rank in Google with some easy on page optimization.
Important: in the Google Keyword Tool Do NOT pay attention to the “competition” tab on the right side – that refers to PPC competition for PAID advertising on Google and does NOT have anything to do with what we’re doing here!
I did a Video on Keyword Research on YOUTUBE last year on this very topic that you might want to watch. It’s about 30 minutes long, but I promise you’ll learn a TON
Anyways, the above Video will probably give you ALOT more than I possibly could in this blog post, so I sincerely hope you gave it a watch!
Resources Mentioned in the Video:
http://www.traffictravis.com – Traffic Travis Free
http://www.iwriter.com/ – Iwriter is (in my opinion) the easiest way to outsource your content. I DO recommend 500 words and 4 star writers (if you do 3 star writers you’ll most likely get crap)
I’d suggest launching your blog/website with at LEAST 5 articles targeting various long tailed phrases.
If I were doing a blog on dating tips for men, I might do the following posts (for example):
- How do I get a girlfriend?
- How to get Girlfriend back
- Get a girlfriend online
- Why Can’t I get a girlfriend
- Tips to get a girlfriend
Once you have the 5 posts up, try to add at least one post per DAY based on a long tailed keyword you find using the Google Keyword Tool.
Make sure you link INTERNALLY between relevant words in the blog posts, as that will help your site rank better over all as well.
Now keep in mind, these keywords – these are all QUESTIONS, they’re things people search for in GOOGLE. Do a little BASIC SEO work on each post, and you’ll probably see page 1 rankings after a few weeks for some of your keywords:
- Add your keyword into the FRONT of the title
- Add your keyword in your H1 Tag,
- Add your keyword in your Image Alt tag,
- Add your keyword in one H2 or H3 tag as well.
I suggest making each post at LEAST 500 words to start off with – though longer is always better. If you’re NOT the best of writers, you can always outsource your content to iwriter – I used it ALL the time and am generally happy with the results.
Anyways, shit – I was originally just going to bang out a quick 300 word article on this – and I’m already up to almost 1,000 words LOL.
Alright, moving on – PLEASE keep in mind i’m giving a 30,000 foot view here. This is NOT meant to be a step-by-step guide, but more guidelines you can take, use and perfect on your own. I promise though, if you DO go through the steps i’m showing you – and take the time to learn on your own – there is no reason you CAN’T have success blogging online and make a nice profit doing so!
Anyways, next up – the money!
Now that you’ve got your blog up, and your articles – HOW the hell do you monetize it?
Well, there are MANY ways you can monitize your blog – SOME of which (but not all) I use on JeffLenney.com
I DON’T use Google adsense on THIS blog, but I do use it on many others with great success.
You’ll find you get the BEST results with Adsense if you place your ads:
- Above your blog posts
- Sidebar Banners
- Sidebar Video Ads
These are going to be the BEST adsense placements without annoying your readers with ad overload. 🙂
You should EXPERIMENT on your own sites to see if you get more clicks with Text Ads, or Banner/Image Ads.
What about Ad Size? Which is the best?
According to Google Support, “The sizes we’ve found to be the most effective are the 336×280 large rectangle, the 300×250 medium rectangle, the 728×90 leaderboard, the 300×600 half page, and on mobile the 320×100 large mobile banner. Keep in mind that while these ad sizes typically perform well, you should use the size that best complements your pages”
GENERALLY speaking, Larger Ad Units Generate higher CTR (Click through rates), so keep that in mind when doing your ad placements!
I’m running out of time on this post, and I want to keep it UNDER 2,000 words – so If you want to learn MORE about making money with Google Adsense, check out Make Money With Google.
Did you know there are TONS of product owners out there that will pay YOU a commission for making sales of their product?
For example, I’m promoting Google Sniper 3 which pays about 50% commission on each sale! So each $50 sale I make for them earns ME $25 (or more).
There are MANY affiliate programs out there to choose from, some of MY favorite (and the easiest to get started with) are:
- Clickbank (check out Clickbank University 2.0 for CB training)
- Cj.com (great for physical products)
- Amazon Affiliate Program
- OR – you can do a VERY broad search via OfferVault.com
The EASIEST of these is probably clickbank.
To get started, create a free account – then browse to the MARKETPLACE to see available products to promote
From THERE, you can either:
- Search by Keyword (ie: how to get pregnant, get a girlfriend, make money online)
- Browse by CATEGORY (on the left), probably the easiest of the two options.
Assuming you choose to browse by category, it’s quite easy to get started. Simple click on the ARROW next to the category you wish to get started in, and you can view the various sub categories of products available.
From there, you can browse various products available for you to promote and get more information on them. Honestly, the EASIEST thing for you to is play around with the CB marketplace to get a feel for it that way.
You can read MORE about how to use the clickbank marketplace on clickbank itself here.
There is also a video HERE, this video is from 2011 – but it still explains things nicely
If all this CONFUSES you, and seems a bit overwhelming and you still have no idea where to start; I recommend checking out Blogging with John Chow for some great blogging tips and tricks!
Seriously, John Chow is an ICON in this industry – and if you don’t learn something from his blog, you might not be cut out for this. LOL
Building an Email List
Ahhh yeah, building an email list is MY bread and butter and how I make most of MY money online personally.
In email marketing, you build a relationship with a list of subscribers by regularly sending them your email newsletter.
Revenue comes from promoting offers in those newsletters to the subscribers on your list.
Simple, but powerful stuff. You’ll notice that I have an opt in form on the bottom of each post, plus various links to sign up for my email list around this blog right? Well, I’m not going to go into TOO much detail on this, as I’m trying (unsuccessfully, lol) to keep this post shorter – but if you want an EXCELLENT overview of this, check out my two posts on this blog: List Building for Newbies, and Email Marketing Best Practices for affiliate marketers.
I also HIGHLY Recommend Mobile Optin, by Anthony Morrison as it will help you take your mobile traffic to the next level!
Read what I posted above – I guarantee you’ll come out learning quite a few new things!
Anyways, there are obviously QUITE a few powerful ways to legitimately make money blogging. My purpose here is to NOT give you a step by step, as that would take weeks – but rather give you a general OVERVIEW of how it works, and hopefully some inspiration as well to get you started!
Any Next Steps?
YES – there’s an AMAZING new keyword tool called Keyword Supremacy you NEED to check out!
Other than that – If you have ANY questions about blogging OR what I’ve covered above PLEASE let me know via the comments section below.
