Work From Home Stuffing Envelopes, AKA: A Story of How You Got Screwed, Again.
If you think you can sit at home on the couch and eat potato chips stuffing envelopes (with a glove on so you don’t get grease on the product), you are SADLY mistaken.
I mean, physically you can, but it definitely will not make you rich!
Think about it: Logically, we know that machines rule the world, right? They are way more time and money efficient, and not currently susceptible to paper cuts…
The BBB & FTC Warns about the stuffing envelopes scam
How Do They Suck You In?
First of all, how it works is these companies put up simple websites and draw you to them.
You probably saw one before you decided to google whether or not it was a scam!
The first 3 sites currently at the top of Google when you type in “stuff envelopes for cash”, are Reference.com, a question and answer forum full of hidden affiliate-rich links in the answers, a “careerbuilder.bizland.com“, which is a perfect example of a poorly constructed site, followed by a “stuffingenvelopes.hazelpeppergood.com“, which is a short sales page (comparatively) about why you should buy their package of crap.
Here’s what happens if you sign up;
They ask you for your card information to purchase their “Getting Started” pack.
Fun Fact: This whole thing started in the 1920’s during the depression (just in case you are on Jeopardy one day and need to know that).
Anyway, back to you falling for a scam.
There are actually TWO variations! One is something like “Get $2.00 for every envelope you stuff”. What they actually do is have YOU post internet ads, classified ads, etc, pointing back to your website so they can buy the kit from YOU for $25 or $50.00. So you’re not REALLY stuffing envelopes, you’re just getting people to pay YOU to learn how to get people to pay THEM – it’s a pyramid scheme, 100%.
The second variation you actually DO get envelopes, but it gets better!
Once you pay for your golden opportunity, materials kit, and security–you know–because they have bad-ass bodyguards that protect your stash (lol), you have to wait to get it in the mail. Except, most of the time, it never comes.
If you happen to be one of the odd few that DO get a package, you just stuff away, stuffy, stuff-stuff.
And so, they have successfully promised you the world in a box, and all you got in return was Anthrax, and a headstone! HA! Again, just kidding.
Seriously though–no matter how fast you flip them, no matter the blood, sweat and tears you’ve stained envelopes with for this company, your work is never up to their ‘standards’. EVER.
So what does this mean? Well, the clause (you know, the one you never read, dumbass) clearly states that your work MUST be up to the ‘company standards’…which is in the information pack…which was never really CLEARLY stated…okay, so they didn’t spell it out. Name calling retracted.
They have figured out yet ANOTHER way to scam your money. A purdy lil’ pyramid scheme, where the company offers you bonuses and money for referring people to sign up for their ‘ghost package’.
This is probably where you see posters stabled to street signs in poor neighbhorhoods. I go out to Long Beach every week, and I STILL see a sign like this at LEAST once per month.
If you are curious where this scam originated–-some people need MORE assurance–like I said, these types of scams started way back in the depression. They started out in postings in the newspapers, and magazines.
Internet followed the trend. Starting with the classic ‘envelope stuffing’ scam, and evolving into craft & jewellery assembly, 900 numbers, and email processing.
You would still pay a small fee (usually $2), then the victim was offered “$2 for every envelope filled”. They sent out envelopes, which were stuffed for absolutely no reason, and the scam repeated itself over and over again. Finally, it hit the radio, TV, and the Internet! Cha-ching!
A few people have emailed me asking “Is HazelPeppergood a Scam?“
Hazelpeppergood, for those who don’t know, is a “person” online selling information about how to “Stuff Envelopes from Home for Cash”
A quick Google Search of “Hazel Peppergood” (one of the top results online) showed me right away that people are being ripped off and not happy with her.
- BBB.org Gives Hazel Peppergood a F
- RipOff Reports on Hazel Peppergood
- ASRC Asks “Hazel” to Back up her Income Claims, She Never Responds
These are just 3 of the many bad results HazelPeppergood, who is just ONE of the many scam artists trying to sell you on this “make money with little work” lifestyle.
I did look into her myself and there is NOTHING legit about what she does. She is NOT offering jobs or stuffing envelope opportunities, but “information” as to how you can do this yourself (LOL).
She even has the NERVE to lie and say she’s been published on various big media outlets such as CNN, NBC, USA Today (hint: she hasn’t)
Basically what it all boils down to is this: Save your stamp-lickin’ for the utility bills. Remember those companies that were really popular about 5 years ago? (Well, they ran through my city, anyway.) People were signing up for employment lists that cost you anywhere from $150-$250 to get your hands on?
One day, that company just disappeared!
These companies are all scams, online and offline. You can bet their storefront address, nor their web domain, will last any impressive amount of time.
You are not going to make money this way. Ask your grandparents about it, they have probably heard of it!
